Flood-affected tear-gassed in Turbat

TURBAT: Police fired tear gas against rioters protesting the slow, meagre aid reaching their flooded villages on Friday. Police fired tear gas and warning shots but failed to disperse a crowd of several thousand villagers who ransacked the mayor’s office here. Six people were injured in the protest, officials said. The protesters said they had only received packets of biscuits and bottles of water as “relief” thus far. Hundreds of people are still missing and people are despairing of never seeing their family members again. Relief helicopters have been stranded in Quetta because of continuing rain, preventing supplies from reaching the flood victims. The delayed supplies have caused the mayor to resign and angered residents. agencies
